No book comes out of thin air.
Every book is just the latest child with a long parentage.
Some of the books which made Balto’s Nose possible are listed below.
Enjoy the adventure.
Thomas Thibeault
Robert Edsel with Bret Whitter have written the most enlightening volume which will give a general overview of the Monuments Men.
Robert Edsel also has started The Monuments Men Foundation which is an amazing window into these extraordinary lives.
Lynn Nichols
The Rape of Europa: The Fate of Europe’s Treasures in the Third Reich and the Second World War is excellent for all aspects of looting and restitution

Noah Charney has written the definitive book on Stealing the Mystic Lamb: The True Story of the World’s Most Coveted Masterpiece.
I would add that The Mystic Lamb is also the world’s most stolen masterpiece.
American looting after World War II is covered by Kenneth Alford and reads like a cross between a crime thriller and a police report. Excellent.
Allied Looting in World War II: Thefts of Art, Manuscripts, Stamps and Jewelry in Europe
